Chronic bronchitis and Emphysema are a few examples of COPD.
Here are a few exercises everyone can practice in order to prevent themselves from developing COPD.
Deep Breathing
Sit or stand in a relaxed position with arms comfortably placed in side of your body.
Take a deep breath in through your nose.
Hold your breath till the count of 5.
Exhale slowly and release the air completely out of your nose.
Practice it for 10 minutes at least 3-4 times a day.
Pursed Lip Breathing
Inhale through your nose till the count of 3.
Purse your lips as if blowing candles and blow out air slowly till the count of 5.
Do not push air outside strenuously.
Practice it for 4-5 times a day.
Huff-Cough
Sit in a comfortable position with your arms on the side of your body.
Take a deep breath in (a bit deeper than your usual breath) through your mouth.
Blow the air out with the help of your stomach muscles with making a sound of Ha-Ha-Ha(like making steam on mirror) in 3 equal huffs.
It can be helpful in removal of mucus present in your lungs.
Diaphragmatic Breathing
Sit or lie down in a relaxed position.
Place one hand on chest and another on stomach.
Breathe in through your nose and fill it in your stomach so that your stomach moves outwards.
Purse your lips and breathe out through your mouth pressing your stomach gently to go back to its normal position.
Consult an experienced Physiotherapist to practice this exercise effectively.
