A tribute to Irrfan Khan through his legendary roles…

Irrfan Khan (7 January 1967 – 29 April 2020) was an Indian actor, known for his work predominantly in Hindi cinema.In a career spanning over 30 years and featuring in more than 50 domestic films, he had received numerous awards, including a National Film Award and Filmfare Awards in four categories. He is considered  to be one of the finest actors in Indian cinema and was also awarded  the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honor. He also has some international roles to his credit  in  The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), Life of Pi (2012), Jurassic World (2015), and Inferno (2016). He started his acting career with TV shows like Chandrakanta(1994) and made his on screen debut with Salaam Bombay(1988), although he got noticed with Haasil(2003) and made his final appearance in Angrezi Medium(2020), the movie.

So we are here to pay tribute to the wonderful actor

Haasil(2003)

A movie set in Allahabad college politics and a love triangle between Irrfan khan, Jimmy shergill and Hrishita bhatt. Irrfan played a brilliant negative role and received filmfare award for the same. It was his performance which kept every single act a dynamic one.

Maqbool(2004)

A yet another brilliant performance of an underworld don’s henchman who falls in love with his boss’s mistress. She instigates him to kill the don and becomes the next don. The movie itself is an adaptation of the Shakespeare’s novel Macbeth.

Life in a metro(2007)

Its a compilation of six different stories of nine people living and working in the city of Mumbai. Irrfan played the role of Monty, a single bachelor in his thirties desperately looking for a partner. The co-stars in this movie were Shilpa shetty, K.K.Menon, Sharman Joshi, Kangana Ranaut and Konkana Sen Gupta with Dharmendra and Nafisa Ali.

The Namesake(2007)

A story of Ashima(Tabu) and Ashoke(Irrfan), immigrant bengali parents who are trying to adjust to the lifestyle in America. While their son, Gogol(Kal Penn) goes through identity crisis between his American life and Indian culture. A story told so beautifully by Meera Nair that a lot of people actually relate to the difficulty of going through the identity crisis in their formative years.

Slumdog Millionaire(2009)

A danny boyle movie based on a teenager from slums of Mumbai winning ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati?’ show and interrogated for cheating on the show. Irrfan khan played the cop who interrogates the slum boy.

Paan Singh Tomar(2012)

Paan Singh Tomar is a 2012  biographical film based on the true story of the athlete of the same name.The film is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. Irrfan Khan plays the title role, with Mahie Gill, Vipin Sharma and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the supporting cast.This film was emerged as a superhit at the box-office and  won the Best Feature Film and Best Actor in the 60th National Film Awards 2012.

Life Of Pi(2012)

Life of Pi is a 2012 adventure drama film  based on Yann Martel’s 2001 novel of the same name. Irrfan khan played the role of grown up Pi Patel. This movie was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards which included the Best Picture – Drama and the Best Director and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score.

The Amazing Spiderman(2012)

The Amazing Spider-Man is a 2012 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. Irrfan Khan described his role as Dr. Ratha as a “pivotal role”

The Lunchbox(2013)

An unusual concept of friendship between two strangers who exchange notes through a lunchbox delivered to the wrong man. Irrfan played the male lead in the movie who mistakenly receives a lunchbox meant for Nimrat kaur’s husband. A friendship starts in the form of exchange of letters and notes hidden in the lunchbox and they eagerly wait for each other’s notes.

Piku(2015)

A rather funny take on a road trip taken by an architect with her nagging father from Delhi to Kolkata. Irrfan’s character Rana Choudhary owns the cab service and drives them on this long trip with pit stops in cities. The movie revolves around the constipation problem of the character Bashkor Banerjee played by Amitabh Bachchan and his daughter Piku(Deepika Padukone) dealing with her father obsession over it.

Madaari(2016)

Irrfan played the character of a man who lost his son due to negligence of the government. He goes on to take revenge by kidnapping the ten year old son of the home minister to meet his demands.

Hindi Medium(2017)

Hindi Medium is a 2017 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film written and directed by Saket Chaudhary. This film is based on a couple from Chandni Chowk aspire to give their daughter the best education and thus be a part of and accepted by the elite of Delhi.The film features Irrfan Khan and Saba Qamar in the lead roles, with Deepak Dobriyal and Dishita Sehgal in supporting roles.The film won praises and made over 100 Crores at the box office.

Angrezi Medium(2020)

Irrfan portrayed the role of a middle class father whose daughter wishes to go for further studies in the the city of London. The struggle of a common man are so effortlessly displayed by the versatile actor in the movie. But alas!! It was his last performance for the big screen.

You will always be remembered as the wizard of acting!! RIP…
